Barbara Ehrenreich, while researching her best selling book "Nickel and Dimed," discovered that many of the people she met trapped in low wage labor were former white collar workers who'd been caught in unemployment's downward spiral.

For her new book, "Bait and Switch: The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream," Ehrenreich again used the immersive research technique for which she is known and put herself in the shoes of white collar job seekers, attending self-presentation seminars, networking workshops and resume writing coaching.  Her findings are not exactly encouraging.
