BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - “American Idol” finalist Bo Bice is out of the hospital after undergoing intestinal surgery and will take more time off from touring to recover, his minister said Thursday.
“He’s in an undisclosed place for more R&R,” said Donny Acton, pastor of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church. “It’s pretty serious stuff, and you can still get an infection.”
Bice, an Atlanta native who most recently lived in the Birmingham suburb of Helena, underwent surgery Friday at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas to repair a kink in his intestine.
He will spend about six weeks recovering, Acton said.
Bice’s publicist, Roger Widynowski, didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday.
The 29-year-old singer was in Las Vegas with the “American Idol” stage show at the time he fell ill. He broke a foot on July 31 during a performance in Manchester, N.H.
“I told him, ‘You’ve got to get both feet back under you, and one of them is broken,”’ said Acton, who talked to Bice Tuesday from the hospital.
