‘American Beauty’ co-star
cites irreconcilable differences

NEW YORK - Mena Suvari has filed for divorce from cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, her husband of five years.

The report by Us Weekly magazine was confirmed Wednesday by Suvari’s publicist, Melissa Kates. The statement said Suvari is claiming irreconcilable differences as the basis for her divorce petition, filed Tuesday.

Us Weekly said the court papers were filed in Los Angeles.

Brinkmann, 43, and Suvari, 26, eloped in March 2000 just after the actress had turned 21.

The couple met while working on the cheerleading comedy “Sugar & Spice.” They recently collaborated on the upcoming “Standing Still,” a film directed by Matthew Weiss.

Suvari’s screen credits also include “American Beauty,” two “American Pie” films and “Beauty Shop.”
