Tankless toilet makes
a fashion statement

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - A tankless toilet unveiled by Kohler Co. promises to make a fashion statement while still staying functional. The company has introduced the Purist Hatbox, a toilet that aims to bring the throne to your home into the 21st Century.

"Over the past couple decades we've witnessed the television's transformation from bulky boxes to slim, streamlined plasma screens and appliances change from typical white to commercial inspired stainless steel and even retro colors," said David Kohler, president of Kohler's Kitchen & Bath Group.

But the price of the sleek, futuristic-looking loo has also jumped into the future for what many customers would pay.

It sells for between $2,890 and $4,321 and comes in six different colors. The company said it uses its Power Lite electrical system to flush much like a quiet sump pump. It also features a slow-close toilet seat that just needs a tap and a seat two inches higher than your average toilet.

The Purist Hatbox made its runway debut at Olympus Fashion Week in New York City in February. Kohler had six of its luxury mobile restrooms at the show.

"We see it as much a fashion statement as something that will meet your needs," said Kohler marketing vice president Michael Chandler.

The toilet is part of Kohler's line of Purist products.
