President and CEO of McDonnell Douglas Corp. from 1994-97 until merger with Boeing. President and chief operating officer of Boeing from 1997-2001 before retiring in June 2002. Remained on Boeing board as vice chairman; returned as president and CEO Dec. 1, 2003.
