Name: Harry Curtis Stonecipher.

Birthdate: May 16, 1936, in Robbins, Tenn.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in physics from Tennessee Technological University.

Career: Spent four years with General Motors Corp.’s aircraft-engine unit, starting as a lab technician. After returning to college for degree, joined General Electric Co.’s aircraft-engine unit in 1960 as an evaluation engineer and moved up through company ranks, culminating in heading its commercial and military transport division from 1984-87. Joined Sundstrand Corp., Rockford, Ill., in 1987 as corporate executive vice president. Became president and chief executive officer in 1989 and added chairman’s title in 1991. President and CEO of McDonnell Douglas Corp. from 1994-97 until merger with Boeing. President and chief operating officer of Boeing from 1997-2001 before retiring in June 2002. Remained on Boeing board as vice chairman; returned as president and CEO Dec. 1, 2003. Forced out March 6 because of what the company said was a consensual relationship with a female employee that was inconsistent with the company’s code of conduct.

Family: Wife, Joan, two children and two grandchildren.
