NEW YORK - Justin Guarini of “American Idol” has left the cast of “Good Vibrations,” the upcoming Broadway musical that uses songs by the Beach Boys.
The 26-year-old Guarini had been in the show’s workshop last summer at Vassar College’s Martel Theater in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and was to have appeared in the production when it opened Jan. 27 at Broadway’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre. Preview performances begin Dec. 20.
But in a terse statement issued Wednesday, the producers announced that they and Guarini “have parted company.” His replacement will be announced soon, Susanne Tighe, a spokeswoman for the show, said.
“Good Vibrations,” with a book by Richard Dresser, concerns a group of East Coast teenagers who find their way to California, where the surf is always up and romance is in the air. Also in the cast are Tituss Burgess, Brandon Wardell and Jessica-Snow Wilson.
