NEW YORK - Apparently, a couple Bradys didn’t own any exercise equipment.
Former “Brady Bunch” actors Christopher Knight and Susan Olsen, who portrayed Peter and Cindy Brady on the popular TV sitcom, and four other not-so-A-list celebrities signed up to shed excess pounds for Discovery Health Channel’s “Body Challenge: Hollywood,” a 12-week health and fitness competition.
“It’s not a beauty contest,” Knight told The Associated Press Tuesday. “It is a contest about health. It was very illuminating to me. I thought I knew what I needed to know.”
The competitors, including Erik Estrada (“CHiPS”) and Charlene Tilton (“Dallas”), were given personal trainers and nutritionists to help in their transformation. Knight lost 50 percent of his fat mass during the competition, which was filmed last December.
“I have been in and out of shape for 20 years,” said Knight, who worked behind a desk in the high-tech industry for most of his life. “I couldn’t find the time. There was just no energy to work out and stay in shape.”
Now that Knight, who was a fan of the previous seasons of “Body Challenge,” is in better shape and free of his desktop duties, he’d like to get back to his acting roots.
“If I’m going to re-approach the entertainment industry, there’s no room for chubby,” Knight said.
The four-episode “Body Challenge: Hollywood” premiered Tuesday.
