‘Getaways’: Try this trip from San Francisco
In this installment of a special series, ‘Today’ travel editor Peter Greenberg takes a three-day side-trip from the city by the bay
In a special weekly series called “Three-Day Getaways,” “Today” travel editor Peter Greenberg is heading out for a series of mini-vacations from several of our nation's major metropolitan hubs. In week three, he made a great escape from San Francisco, Calif., which took him thousands of feet above the earth and hundreds down into it. Here’s a quick look at some of the suggested stops in his scenic side-trip:

Try a slight detour. Just an hour and a few continents away, you’ll trek through the “Serengeti.” Is this is a typical safari game drive through West Africa? Hardly. It's just southwest of Napa Valley. But they do have the open planes, the free-roaming game and species interaction. You really don't feel like you're in the middle of the wine country at all. Stay the night and sleep in a tent to bunk beside the animals. Then share breakfast with them in the morning.
