The shooters arrived at the home in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo and asked for the son of Margarita Palma Valdenegro on Saturday, El Diario newspaper reported.
When they were told his location was unknown, the gunmen killed Palma, 65, as well as Paula Chaparro Palma, 22, a 15-year-old and two children aged 2 and 4, the newspaper reported.
The bodies were shot dozens of times, according to El Diaro. State Attorney's General's Office spokesman Carlos Gonzalez says the unidentified gunmen took the spent shell casings away with them after shooting the family.
Two men were left alive, the newspaper reported.
Chihuahua state, which contains Ciudad Juarez, is a hotspot in Mexico's drug war, which has claimed more than 34,000 lives since 2006.
