Elvis Costello will perform on Oscar night

NEW YORK - Elvis Costello isn’t too hip to perform at this year’s Oscars.

“I’m delighted to be there and delighted to be a part of it,” Costello told reporters in Beverly Hills, Calif., recently, according to AP Radio. “It is a very notable group of songs this year.”

Costello and T Bone Burnett are nominated for an original song Oscar for “Scarlet Tide” from the “Cold Mountain” film. Costello will play while Alison Krauss and the Sacred Harp Singers perform at the Feb. 29 ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Also nominated: “Into the West” from “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” Fran Walsh, Howard Shore and Annie Lennox; “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow” from “A Mighty Wind,” Michael McKean and Annette O’Toole; “The Triplets of Belleville” from “The Triplets of Belleville,” Benoit Charest and Sylvain Chomet; and “You Will Be My Ain True Love” from “Cold Mountain,” Sting.

“On the day, you would be happy to see any of these writers win,” Costello said. “There’s no song there that’s an embarrassment.”
