Summer hotel rates inch lower, Travelocity says

Average domestic, international  rate in mid-July was $131, $182, respectively

SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Travel services company Travelocity says its latest pricing report shows that while summer airfare rates have increased slightly, hotel rates have actually declined.

      Good times are finally back for the nation's airlines. For travelers, that means it's getting harder to find bargains.

On May 20, the average domestic hotel rate for summer was $140 and international hotel rate was $201, Travelocity said Thursday.

As of mid-July, average domestic hotel rates dropped to $131 and average international fell to $182.

Conversely, domestic average airfare rose to $364 from $357, and international average airfare rose to $834 from $819, according to the report.

Travelocity is owned by travel company Sabre Holdings Corp.
