Kevin Tibbles

Kevin Tibbles is an NBC News correspondent based in the network's Chicago bureau since 2000. Tibbles reports for "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today," "Dateline" and MSNBC.  Prior to joining the Chicago bureau, Tibbles was a foreign correspondent for NBC News based in London.

Tibbles has covered a wide variety of foreign and domestic stories, including reports from the rooftops of Baghdad and Belgrade during U.S. led air strikes, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the funeral of Princess Diana, genocide and exodus in Rwanda, and the Truth and Reconciliation hearings in South Africa.

In the immediate aftermath of the September 11th attacks, Tibbles tracked down and interviewed the father of hijacker Muhammad Atta in Cairo, and reported on coalition efforts to rout the Taliban in Afghanistan.

In addition, his work from Iceland to Thailand to Panama to Dubai and beyond has been featured on the popular ”Today”  series, "Where in the World is Matt Lauer?"

Tibbles was honored with the Overseas Press Club Award for "Best Television Spot News Reporting from Abroad" and an Emmy Award for Outstanding News Coverage for his reporting on the devastating floods in Mozambique in 2000. In 2006, he received an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of Breaking News for his role in “NBC Nightly News'” coverage of the crisis in the Middle East. He has also received the National Headliners Award, and an award from the National Association of Black Journalists for his work.

Prior to joining NBC News, Tibbles was a national correspondent for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), where he covered numerous events including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the first Gulf War.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Ryerson University in Toronto.
