Kroger recalls 2 seasonings due to salmonella

CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. said it is recalling two of its seasonings due to an ingredient that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The largest U.S. grocery retailer said late Monday that it would pull its California seasoning blend garlic powder and special seasoning blend lemon pepper from stores in 31 states.

No illnesses have been reported.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

The garlic powder seasoning was sold in 2.5-ounce jars with code dates of DEC0312PS2 and DEC0412PS2 under the UPC code 1111066599. The lemon pepper seasoning was sold in 2.25-ounce jars with code dates of NOV0512PS2, DEC0312PS2 and DEC2812PS2 under the UPC code 1111074492.

Kroger recommends customers with the products return them to a store for a full refund or replacement.
