United, Continental waive flight-change fees

CHICAGO — United Airlines says it will waive flight-change fees for customers who want to change travel plans later this week in the Midwest and Southeast, which are bracing for winter storms.

And Continental says travelers going through its hub at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport on Thursday can also change their plans without penalty.

United said Wednesday that it would waive change fees for travelers booked to travel from, to or through some Midwest airports on Thursday and Friday or through some Southeast locations on Thursday.

The airline said customers should check the status of their flights before going to the airport to learn if it has been canceled. Customers on canceled flights are eligible for a full refund.

Changes to a customer's itinerary must be made by midnight of the original travel date, and rescheduled travel could cost more for the itinerary or other terms of the booking change.

The Midwest fee waivers apply to travel to, from and through Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The Southeast waivers apply to travel in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. The offer applies to all United, United Express and United code-share flights.

United is a unit of Chicago-based UAL Corp.

Continental Airlines Inc. said it would let customers scheduled to travel to, from or through Houston on Thursday to change their plans without penalty.
