FRANKFURT - German utility RWE AG said Wednesday it opened the Rhyl Flats wind farm off the northern coast of Wales which will be able to power some 60,000 homes.

RWE said the 25 Siemens turbines with the capacity to produce 90 megawatts was the largest wind farm so far off the Welsh coast.

RWE, based in Essen, and one of Europe's largest utilities, already operates the North Hoyle wind farm off the coast of Wales, with the capacity to produce 60 megawatts. It's planning yet another Welsh wind farm, Gwynt y Mor, which will have several hundred megawatts of capacity, RWE said.
