EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- A new runway extension is up and running at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie that the Metropolitan Airports Commission says will help attract new business to the area.
The $17 million extension project added 5,000 feet to Flying Cloud's south parallel runway. Prior to the expansion, the longest runway at the airport was 3,900 feet, which is too short for many modern business jets when they are loaded with passengers, baggage and fuel.
In the past, that meant business jets that used Flying Cloud had to stop at another airport with a longer runway to add fuel or passengers.
MAC officials say the extension improves the efficiency not just of Flying Cloud but of the entire MAC system as a whole. That includes seven airports total including the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
