Two-vehicle crash kills one, injures eight

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — State police say one person is dead and eight are injured following a two-car crash on Highway 35 north of Mt. Hood Meadows. Police say the crash occurred midmorning Saturday as the driver of a sport utility vehicle tried to pass another car on a snowy roadway and veered into the path of an oncoming Jeep. Police say the driver of the Jeep was killed. He was identified as 23-year-old Emmanuel Torres of Madras. All five passengers in his car were hospitalized. The driver of the SUV, 16-year-old Justin Wayne O'Neal, and the two others in his car were hospitalized. The highway was shut down for several hours following the crash. ©2009 Associated Press.
