WICHITA, Kansas - After months of controversy, The Lord's Diner has decided to withdraw its proposal for a second location in Northeast Wichita.

The Lord's Diner announced its decision Saturday, saying it was made out of respect for the residents in the Northeast Wichita community, which expressed concerns over the project.

Those who live and work near the proposed project at 21st and Grove believe there isn't a need for the diner, because many of the local churches already feed the homeless.

Residents were also concerned that opening a Lord's Diner would slow the 21st Street Revitalization Project, aimed at improving the area. Executive Director of the Lord's Diner Wendy Glick said, "Regrettably, over the past few months, we've reached an impass in our efforts to move forward with the Lord's Diner in the Northeast Wichita community."

That news came as a relief for Annie Alberson, who lives next to the proposed location.

"I'm happy. I thank the Lord, I really do for not letting them put it here because I think this is the wrong place for it."

The Lord's Diner says it is not planning to pursue the Northeast Wichita location any further.

The Lord's Diner is also not looking at other locations at this time, but will continue to feed the hungry at Broadway and Central in Downtown Wichita.
