(MOBILE, Ala.) Nov. 14 - The 36th annual Gulf Coast Classic kicked off this afternoon, it was the game that almost didn't happen after the city cut its funding, and organizers stuggled to find sponsors. This year it's a classic in the true sense of the word now that organizers have settled on two set teams in Alabama State and Southern University. Game organizers did not have an accurate ticket count as of Saturday afternoon, but were anticipating a big crowd, by some estimates as many as 20,000 fans. Tailgaters packed the parking lot ahead of the game at Ladd Peebles Stadium. Danny Mosley says he's attended the game every year and noticed the difference in size, I think the crowd looks bigger, he said. Executive Director Amelia Bacon says she still waiting on a final count of ticket vendors.
