Seffner school damaged by fire

SEFFNER - A fire this morning damaged McDonald Elementary School in eastern Hillsborough County.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, the two-alarm fire damaged one or two classrooms inside the school at 501 W. Pruett Road.

About two-thirds of the building suffered smoke damage, some of it heavy, fire officials said.

A decision on whether the school will open on Monday will be made Sunday, said Lewis Brinson, assistant superintendent for administration of Hillsborough County schools.

Officials also are considering having students go to an alternate location.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 6:30 a.m. that started in a kindergarten classroom and created a lot of smoke, fire officials said. It was extinguished by 8 a.m.

The fire remains under investigation.
