"The racers are getting ready and we're getting ready. Bleachers are going up. The one thing we're lacking as of today is snow," Gene Shaw of Visit Duluth, one of the event organizers said.

With above average temperatures it has been tough getting snow and getting it to stick. However, organizers said this predicament is nothing new.

"It's rare for us to actually have a nice run of really cold snow making temps so we're used to the nail biting this time of year," Rene Mattson, executive director of Spirit Mountain said.

Last year, weather cooperated and snow was made well in advance, Mattson said. The year before that Spirit Mountain was able to make all the snow for the Snocross in 48 hours.

Organizers said they'll do whatever they can to get the race off to a good start, including pulling out 24 snow guns to make snow.

The Snocross Championship brings in 35,000 people from all over the nation and pumps $6 million into Duluth.
