Police say don't carry everything in your wallet

Police say having that card on you all the time makes it easier for your identity to be stolen right out from under you.

Reports about identity theft, lost wallets or purses are made at police stations frequently. In most of those reports, officers say victims had their social security card with them, and now that it's holiday season they add it's the perfect time to remind everyone there is no reason to carry a Social Security Card with you. It's an important piece of information that in the wrong hands can create an identity theft nightmare.

"Your Social Security Card, you probably shouldn't pack with you in your wallet or in your purse. You probably should memorize the number then put your card away in a secure place," Captain Jim Raymond said.
