Meters To Cost $1 An Hour, With 2-Hour Limit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The heart of downtown Nashville isn't the only popular place drivers will have to pay the meter to park.

Business owners along Demonbreun near Music Row learned Thursday that parking meters are going up on both sides of the street.

"We asked them, you know, 'Hey, what's going on?'" said Bob Franklin, owner of Tin Roof. "And that's when we were notified that they're installing parking meters."

According to the parking commission's Web site, the meters will cost $1 an hour, with a two-hour limit.

Business owners said the city claims the meters are to turn over spaces, benefiting businesses and customers. But parking is also big business, bringing in more than $1 million for the city a year.

"I never carry cash or change, so I hate parking in areas where I have to use a meter, actually," said Jamie Moore, a Music Row patron.
