New Bishop To Be Named, D'Arcy To Announce Retirement?

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – Officials with the Fort Wayne - South Bend diocese are confirming that they will announce the appointment of a new bishop in a news conference Saturday.

A spokesman from the diocese just confirmed for us that Saturday's announcement "does involve the retirement of Bishop John D’Arcy" and the appointment of a new bishop to the area.

We also learned that the replacement is currently serving in another diocese. A name has not been given.

D’Arcy has been a priest for nearly 53 years and has served in the Fort Wayne - South Bend diocese since May 1st of 1985.

It's unclear if his retirement will be effective immediately or a date closer to his 25th anniversary in May.
