MITCHELL, S.D. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A Fort Wayne man and young teenage girl are being held in South Dakota accused in a gruesome murder there.

Twenty-year-old Alexander Salgado of Fort Wayne and a 15-year-old girl, also from Fort Wayne, are in custody tonight for their role in what police say is a brutal murder of a 16-year-old girl.

Police there say they found 16-year-old Jasmine Guevara's body in the trunk of a burned vehicle Wednesday afternoon in the tiny town of Mitchell, South Dakota.

“All night long, all I could think about was there's somebody's child laying in that truck,” witness Judi Bartscher said. “You know if it's an adult child or who it is, it's still somebody's child. It's a family member.”

Authorities say Salgado moved to South Dakota a month ago and around the same time, Fort Wayne police say the mother of the 15-year-old girl filed a missing person's report.

Mitchell police say the two suspects were acquaintances of Guevara's, and that a domestic situation may have gotten out of hand.

“Our initial information that we understand is that the homicide is related to a disturbance or domestic type dispute between two of the ladies involved out there,” Fort Wayne Police Department Captain Paul Shrawder said.

Authorities say Salgado has a violent criminal past and is a known gang member.

Salgado and the 15-year-old girl are facing charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and aiding and abetting in a murder for the death of Guevara.

Court dates have not been set for Salgado or the 15-year-old girl.

The 15-year-old, whose name has not been released, could be charged as an adult. But that will require a court hearing that could take days or weeks.
