A home owned by Mario and Nancy Arena of Pittsford will be featured on NBC's Today Show Friday morning on WHEC-TV in the 10:00 o'clock hour. It will be part of real estate expert Barbara Corcoran's segment.
The historic home is called the Merrifield Estate. It's located in Scipio Center, N.Y. south of Auburn. The Arenas have owned the home since 1986.
Merrifield, a beautiful Greek Revival Cobblestone house, was built circa 1840 and was once on the Underground Railroad. In fact, it is very near the home of Harriet Tubman, a runaway slave from Maryland who became known as the "Moses of her people." Over the course of 10 years, she is credited with leading hundreds of slaves to freedom.
Corcoran is The Today Show's real estate expert and often reports on the best buys in real estate across the country. Merrifield, once valued at more $1,000,000, is listed for sale at $429,000. They're looking for any reasonable offer.
Real estate broker Todd Post expects the exposure of The Today Show to help generate interest. The house has its own website,www.cnycobblestone.com.
Merrifield sits in a rural area between Cayuga and Owasco lakes and is close to the Finger Lakes wine trails.
