The dive team was sent out to determine if there were bodies in the vehicles.
They hooked up a blue SUV to pull it out of the river and then discovered a second vehicle under the first.
Two of those cars were removed from the river, a third is buried by mud. Teams will have to come back to pull it out.
"The initial call was we had a vehicle that was partially out of the water," said Floyd County Detective Joel White.
"What we're going to do is send divers down to make sure there's no one in the vehicle," said Indiana State Police Sgt. Manville Nagel.
The Middle Creek Boat Ramp is an area Floyd County investigators and Indiana dive teams know well.
"We patrol back here. The problem is, we can't be here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When people come in the middle of the night, all they have to do is put the car in neutral and send it down the ramp, so it doesn't take long to do it," White said.
"At this location, we do it about three or four times per year. Most of the vehicles we recover at this location are stolen out of Louisville," said Nagel.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled from the river was stolen back in from Louisville in August. There was no one inside.
Using a spray on chemical agent, investigators are able to search for and find fingerprints.
The dive team pulled another car, a mauled mess, from the river bottom as well. After pulling that one up, they discovered a third car in the river.
Dive teams need stronger equipment to pull that car out because most of it is buried in mud.
"We will process them to see if they're stolen. They'll be returned to the dealership or owner, wherever it came from," said White.
