JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville man said a video captured by a neighbor's surveillance system shows a University of North Florida professor hitting him with a 2x4.
Dustin Brown said you can see him in the video trying to put his shoes on when another man, Tayeb Giuma, comes up from behind.
In just a matter of seconds, Giuma, who police said is an associate professor at UNF, hits Brown with a 2x4.
"I basically tackled him, threw the 2x4 out of his hands and held him there until I could get help to arrive," Brown said.
Brown said the incident happened in September when he was doing a favor for the professor by agreeing to build him a gazebo in his Queens Harbour neighborhood.
The two had known each other for a year, and the professor even had dinner at Brown's house.
But when it came time to talk about payment, Brown said that's when the conversation turned south.
"I said, 'OK, he said you said something about another amount,'" Brown said. "And I said, 'Maybe that was before we had plans or anything else. This was a cost deal. These are the times we were here.' And he said, 'No, you weren't there those times.' So I said, 'OK, I don't really want to argue about it. I really don't need the money. You can keep it.' And I let myself out of the house."
Brown said the professor continued to curse at him and started threatening him.
Brown said when he tried to leave, the professor started following him and attacked.
Police said the professor is facing charges.
