JUPITER, Fla. - WPBF.com
A Stuart couple whose military medals and mementos were stolen had them replaced Wednesday, thanks to the help of their local congressman.
Molly and Tim Moriarty were burglarized in August while Molly was on Naval reserve training in Jacksonville.
"The house was pretty tossed," Molly Moriarty told WPBF 25 News.
Aside from a missing television and laptop, they discovered that the medals and ribbons belonging to Tim and to Molly's deceased Navy father, Harold Eaker, were also gone. So was the flag that draped Eaker's coffin.
U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla., heard about the burglary and worked to get the medals and flag replaced. He also discovered three more medals that Eaker hadn't ever received.
"I couldn't think of a more fitting thing to do than to return these medals or get these medals back for this family … so it's my pleasure to do that as their congressman," Rooney said.
Tim Moriarty said the effort was "unexpected and very much appreciated."
