OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a professor emeritus of economics shot and killed his wife before he was found dead in their Oswego home.
Police ruled 86-year-old Josephine Hyse's death a homicide. She was shot once in the back of the head. They are still investigating whether 89-year-old Richard Hyse committed suicide. The couple were found dead in their home Monday, lying together on the same bed.
Autopsies showed both had ingested significant amounts of prescription narcotics before their deaths. The cause of Richard Hyse's death likely won't be determined until after toxicology reports are finished, which could take several weeks.
Hyse founded the business program at the State University of New York at Oswego. Both became prominent in Oswego community affairs and the arts.
