SALUTING OUR VETERANS AND HONORING OUR HEROES

Washington, D.C. - Senator John Ensign Tuesday released the following statement in honor of our nation's veterans:

"It is with great respect and sincere admiration that I thank our nation's veterans on this very special day. You are the men and women who throughout our history have stood up to defend freedom, protect our citizens, and fight for a cause bigger than yourselves. You are heroes.

"I would encourage all Americans to join me in thanking our veterans for keeping America the land of the free and the home of the brave."



REID, CHAPLAIN BLACK TO HONOR WOUNDED WARRIORS ON VETERANS DAY

Washington, D.C. - Nevada Senator Harry Reid and Admiral Barry Black, the Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, will participate in a send-off reception honoring wounded warriors who are being flown to Las Vegas for a weekend of relaxation in recognition of their sacrifice and service to our country.

The Tribute to the Troops - Wounded Warriors Charter Flight is being hosted by American Airlines, the Blue Man Group, the Sands Foundation and ThanksUSA.

City of Reno Veterans Parade

The City of Reno will honor veterans in a parade set to begin at 11 a.m. The parade is free and everyone is invited to attend. This years parade is dedicated by the City of Reno to the late Colonel Alex Woods, Director of WCSD JROTC for his outstanding career and passion of teaching all cadets to always do their duty with honesty, teamwork and loyalty.

The parade route will be along Virginia Street starting at Court Street and traveling north to 5th Street. The parade will stop at the Truckee River for a wreath dropping ceremony in remembrance of fallen soldiers.

Celebrate Veterans Day with the Veterans Guest House

(RENO, Nev.) Join the Veterans Guest House (VGH) as it celebrates 15 years of serving veterans and their families this Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Activities include the release of orange balloons, part of a national tribute to those affected by Agent Orange, participation in the Veterans Day parade and an open house.

At 10 a.m., participants all over the country will release orange balloons simultaneously to raise awareness of the devastating effects of Agent Orange exposure. The public is invited to meet on the lawn of the Veterans Guest House and release balloons, provided by VGH, in honor of their loved ones. Agent Orange is the term used to describe a powerful herbicide and defoliant used most recognizably during the Vietnam War.

At 11 a.m., the Veterans Guest House will participate in the annual Veterans Day parade. The parade will start at Mill and Virginia streets and travel north to Fifth and Virginia streets. Immediately following the parade, the public is invited to attend an open house, enjoy light refreshments and tour the Veterans Guest House at 880 Locust St. until 3 p.m.

Reno City Hall Closed in Observance of Veterans Day

Reno, NV- Reno City Hall will be closed, Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

Additionally, the City's Public Works Department and Community Development Department will also be closed as will most of the City's Parks Recreation and Community Services facilities. The exception will be the Rosewood Lakes Golf Course and Northwest Pool which will be open and will operate under regular hours.

SPARKS CITY HALL CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY - VETERANS DAY

In honor of Veterans Day, Sparks City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, November 11.

The City's Public Works Department and Community Development Department will be closed.

Additionally, Sparks Parks & Recreation will be closed including the Alf Sorensen Community Center and the Larry D. Johnson Community Center.

Washoe County

The Washoe County School District is closed and classes will not be held in observance of Veterans Day.

All Washoe County libraries are closed for Veterans Day.

Federal Government

Veterans Day is a Federal holiday. For more information click here.

RTC VETERAN'S DAY SCHEDULE

RTC's administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veteran's Day. During the holiday, buses will operate on a regular schedule and passenger services will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at RTC CITICENTER and from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. at RTC CENTENNIAL PLAZA.

Section of Los Altos to close Wednesday

Sparks, NV - On Wednesday, November 11, Los Altos Parkway will be closed between Ion Drive and Sparks Boulevard through this weekend. No through traffic will be permitted except residential traffic.

During this time, the primary detour route will be Ion Drive to Sparks Boulevard.

Motorists are encouraged to plan extra time when traveling this route, and please abide by posted speed limits.

SNCAT Takes the Holidays Home to Troops Sierra Nevada Community Access Television (SNCAT) will be providing Northern Nevada families with the opportunity to send season's greetings to loved-ones overseas, serving in America's armed forces through local cable channels and over the Internet.

In partnership with the family services branch of the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, SNCAT will provide studio time for individuals and families to come in and record their greetings for those not home for the holiday season. These greetings will be cut into 30-second spots to be run on SNCAT Channel 16, Charter Cable Channel 3 and on-demand on Charter Digital Cable and SNCAT.org.
