Mom, Son Charged With Assaulting Officer

A Nashville mother and her son are charged with assault after a police officer was attacked on Tuesday.

A school resource officer at Nashville's Dupont-Hadley Middle School intervened Tuesday after he saw an 8-year-old boy outside the school kicking a dog.

The officer followed the boy home and, after arresting him, he explained to the boy's mother what happened.

That's when Rachel Swafford allegedly scuffled with the officer and the boy stabbed the officer in the leg with a pen.

Both Swafford and her son are facing a list of charges.
