SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - KSBW.com
A man who police said robbed a Soquel gas station with a cross-bow last week has been charged with armed robbery, sheriff's officials said Tuesday.
Manuel Hernandez Pena, 22, is accused of walking into a Quick Stop gas station on Nov. 4, threatening an employee with a cross-bow and then taking an undisclosed amount of money from the register.
On Friday, Pena was stopped by Watsonville police officers during an unrelated vehicle stop.
Officers discovered that Pena was on parole and recently released from prison.
During a search of Pena's car, officers found evidence related to the Quick Stop robbery, sheriff's officials said.
Pena was initially booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on a parole violation and narcotics charges, but following an investigation, Pena was additionally charged with armed robbery.
Pena's bail has been set at $100,000.
The Santa Cruz County sheriff's office is still investigation and think that Pena may be responsible for other robberies in the Monterey Bay area, authorities said.
