Man Pleads Guilty in Bizarre Attempt to Rob, Kidnap

updated 9:49 p.m. ET Nov. 10, 2009

At the Conway County Courthouse today the four people charged in a bizarre attempt to kidnap and possibly murder a man in Menifee went before a judge. Jim Daven says he was jumped by two men outside his home in July. His son shot and killed one of the attackers. But shortly after, police arrested these four people: Jonathan Brawner, David Newkirk, his wife Tiffany and Michelle Sharp. They say all conspired to take money from Daven and possibly end his life. Today though, Jonathan Brawner accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of robbery only. Though he's sentenced to ten years in prison, for now, he'll be released on an ankle bracelet. "Well personally, I would rather see him stay in jail. The ankle bracelet is, I guess effective, but my personal preference would have been behind bars," victim Jim Daven said. Prosecutors say they didn't have much proof of Brawner's involvement. As a part of his plea agreement he could be required to testify against the three other defendants. Read more atarkansasmatters.com.
