School lockdowns over after police pursuit through Santa Maria

Lockdowns have been lifted for at least 16 Santa Maria schools after they were put on alert during a police chase.

According to a spokesperson for the Santa Maria Bonita School District, the schools were put on lockdown starting at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after police called for the action.

All lockdowns ended by 11:05 a.m.

The spokesperson said some schools used a phone system to alert families.

Today is a minimum day in the district, meaning schools get out at about 12:30 p.m.
