SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - KSBW.com
A 44-year-old Santa Cruz man was arrested after police said he made offers for sex and sent lewd photos to an undercover officer posing as a 12-year-old girl.
Jeffery Totten has been charged with distribution of lewd material to a minor and arranging to meet with a minor for sexual purposes.
Totten was arrested Monday following a week-long investigation where a detective posed as a 12-year-old girl in an Internet chat room after Totten agreed to meet at an undisclosed location for the purpose of having sexual relations, police said.
A newly acquired software, called WebCase, was used during the investigation. The software was supplied through a grant in partnership with the Innocent Justice Foundation, which provides law enforcement with technology tools.
Totten was booked in into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
