OAK PARK, Mich. - A 15-year-old boy died after he crashed a stolen vehicle while fleeing from police early Tuesday morning, said Oak Park police.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office identified the teen as Desean Murrell Fant.

The Oak Park police told Local 4 that officers spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen a few moments earlier, in the area of Morton street and Oak Park Boulevard just after midnight.

A woman called 911 and said that she had just parked her 1999 gold Saturn in the area of 9 Mile and Scotia roads, and as she walked away, she noticed her car was being driven away.

Officers said the stolen vehicle was spotted parked on a residential street and as officers approached, the vehicle sped off and a chase ensued.

Officers chased the vehicle for a few blocks northbound on Morton Road before it lost control and slammed into two trees and a parked vehicle before coming to rest, police said.

The 15-year-old passenger in the allegedly stolen vehicle was taken to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition. Police said the teen is from Oak Park and a missing persons report was filed on him last week.

Police said Fant was driving the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fant's family has been notified of his death.

Police said neither teen had their seat belts fastened.

Police said the police cruisers involved in the chase did not have dash cam video and an investigation into the crash has been launched.
