(NEW ORLEANS, La.) Nov. 9 - Two crewmen were rescued from an oil rig damaged by Tropical Storm Ida in the Gulf of Mexico Monday. A Coast Guard helicopter hoisted the men to safety around 5 a.m., about 80 miles south of New Orleans. Workers reported that a lift boat tied to the oil rig had broken loose, damaging the rig and leaving workers afraid the structure might collapse. Coast Guard Lt. Marc Lanore said the men were rescued just in time. It's a good thing we got the call when we did, Lanore said in a written news release. If it were any later, we may not have been able to preform the rescue because of the effects of [Tropical Storm] Ida.
