Delray Beach police Officer Jeff Messer said there was a brief struggle between one of the assailants and Keegan, who was shot in the neck during the struggle.

"He got shot through the neck and the bullet came out the other side," neighbor Dennis DeMartin said. "And his brother talked to him and said he's in good spirits for what he's going through."

DeMartin said Keegan teaches dancing to other senior citizens living in the community.

Stern suffered a broken hip and a cut on her leg. Both victims were taken to Delray Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

"This is a terrible setback for this community," neighbor Ruth Saed said.

Delray Beach police said the stolen car was found Tuesday morning in West Palm Beach.
