Lakewalk users will be detoured around about one-quarter mile of pathway between Endion Depot and Fitgers parking structure due to the construction of the first phase of the “East Interceptor Sanitary Sewer Storage Facility” project from November 9, 2009 to January 15, 2010.

The City of Duluth is under Consent Decree orders to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows from its waste water collection system.

The East Interceptor is one of the overflow points that the City is mandated to eliminate.

The detour is necessary so workers can construct a new sewer line along the Lakewalk to convey peak wet weather flows from the Fitger’s Diversion Structure (Superior Street and 4th Avenue East) to a proposed storage tank in Canal Park (1st Avenue East and Lake Place Drive) thus eliminating sanitary sewer overflows at this point.
