The Triad's newest law enforcement facility is finally one step closer to reality, as officials broke ground on the new Guilford County Jail Monday.
The building will be located on West Sycamore Street in downtown Greensboro and will eventually hold more than 1,000 inmates, helping to alleviate the county's overpopulation in the old jail.
Construction on the new jail is expected to create nearly 2,000 new jobs.
The facility is expected to open in 2013.
