Kennewick, WA- A former marine wants to unseat the longtime congressman in the Mid Columbia.
Democrat Jay Clough says he's running against Doc Hastings because he says the Mid Columbia needs a congressman with fresh ideas who listens to the people he represents. "I've talked to democrats and republicans alike who have never even met Doc, who've never seen him,” he says. “He's disengaged. He doesn't show up anywhere. And I think people respect someone who is able to put in the time and the sacrifice needed to properly represent the district."
Clough says he would have voted for the health care reform bill that passed the house this weekend. He supports the war in Afghanistan, and while opposed to the initial invasion of Iraq, Clough says he says US troops should stay there until the government has stabilized.
Clough also supports gays in the military.
Clough is from the Tri-Cities, and served as a corporal in the marines for four years following his graduation from Kennewick High School.
He currently is a sub contractor for Washington Closure Hanford.
