Local Cadet Dies After VMI Training Exercise

LEXINGTON, Va. - WBALTV.com

A cadet from Howard County died over the weekend while training at the Virginia Military Institute Academy.

VMI officials said John Alexander Evans, 19, collapsed at his barracks after completing a 10-mile road march with members of his class.

Evans was an international studies major and a member of the Marine ROTC program.

A medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of Evans' death.

Evans, a freshman, was from Highland.
