Newest in the efforts among gardeners who pitch in to help the environment are rain gardens — a homegrown bioswale of sorts that captures rainwater before it hits the street and pollutes the ocean.
Think garden puddle but bigger — a creek bed on dry days that doubles as a depression in the landscape where the homeowner directs rainwater from the roof and other flat surfaces during the rainy season.
