Belmont ran a red light at Belcher Road just before 9 p.m. and hit a Ford pickup driven by James Preston of Clearwater. The pickup was headed south on Belcher, police said.

Belmont's vehicle spun and hit a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Ryan Clark of Dade City. The Pontiac was headed north on Belcher, police said.

Asmitia was thrown from the SUV cargo compartment through the rear glass and hit a light pole, the police department said.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, police said. The accident remains under investigation.

No other injuries were reported
