Lt. Col. Juanita Warman, 55, was a physician's assistant from Harve De Grace.

Warman was a member of the Army Reserves. She worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Maryland. She was a volunteer with the Maryland National Guard's reintegration program for the last year-and-a-half.

Colleagues said she was dedicated to helping women returning from war.

"She was instrumental in developing a post-traumatic stress disorder program for women who are returning from deployments," said Lt. Col Charles Kohler of the Maryland National Guard.

The shooting suspect, 39-year-old Army Maj. Nadil Hasan, who moved from Maryland in July, remains hospitalized.
