ALLEN PARK, Mich. - A movie company, owned by former Detroit Piston Dale Davis, is moving into the Unity Studios complex in Allen Park this weekend.

It's the first company to move into the multi-million dollar Unity project since it was announced about a year ago.

Local 4 News recently did a story questioning whether the Unity project would ever happen. When the project was announced in 2008, it promised to bring along about 3,000 jobs. But until this weekend, the only thing operating on the facility was a film school.

"Someone doesn't come with a magic wand poof there's 10,000 jobs," said Jimmy Lifton, the man behind the Unity Studios project. "But what this does is it absolutely vindicates that we have a viable project here."

Davis' War Entertainment is shipping its gaff station to the studio this weekend.

The company is planning a number of large projects including a movie about a point-shaving basketball scheme from the 1970s.

"We love Dale Davis, his entire operation," Lifton said.

"They are an absolutely excellent crew and we're ecstatic about the equipment. Of course we love having the kind and amount of equipment and that was always the plan," Lifton said.
