YAKIMA--Friday we told you how the lack of volunteers at Yakima's homeless shelters could keep them from opening on schedule.

That's no longer a concern after Saturday morning's training session.

The shelter program tripled its volunteer base after 33 people showed up for the meeting.

That's enough to get at least one shelter opened by November 15.

"It's such a warming thing to see so much of the community come out and respond to the request for help," Dave Hanson, who runs the shelters, said.

Hanson is still looking for about 100 more volunteers to open the remaining shelters by December 1.

If you'd like to help, there's one more training session on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Vineyard Christian Church.
