Nothing seems to stir the heart like family or well-told tales with Christmas as a backdrop. "Meet Me in St. Louis," the MGM musical starring Judy Garland, offers both, and if the sentiment of the holiday season doesn't move you, then the story's close-up view of a colorful, close-knit family will.
That bodes well for the 1989 stage version of the film in general and for Musical Theatre West's production at the Karen and Richard Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts in Long Beach in particular.
