Though Veterans Day is not until next week, citizens in Plumerville celebrated today- honoring not only those in military uniform but a local fallen police officer. Assistant Chief of Police Officer Joey Cannon was shot and killed while on-duty just about four months ago. Today, there was a special dedication to his memory. The parade through the streets of Plumerville was like many small town patriotic parades: simple and humble. But today's celebration had a special meaning, with members of Officer Joey Cannon's family leading the pack. In June Officer Cannon was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop. Shane Lonix has been charged with capital murder. Unveiled today, theres a special memorial in Officer Cannon's honor in front of the police department and another for local veterans. Its something Officer Cannon's son, Josh says his dad would have liked. "He thinks of Veterans as heroes also, he wouldnt consider himself a hero by any means. But of course he is one, said Josh Cannon, son of Joey Cannon. Officer Cannon is definitely a major inspiration not only to his son, but for many people in that community. There was also a moment of silence shared to honor Officer Cannon and those who died at Fort Hood earlier this week. . Read more atarkansasmatters.com.
